Another year, another John Christmas advert. When the festive period hits, the British public waits in anticipation to see just what the department store will do next. In the past, we’ve been treated to animals waking up from hibernation in time for Christmas, a lonely man on the moon, even a long lost snowman couple, all set to a festive cover from the likes of Tom Odell, Lily Allen, Gabrielle Aplin, to name but a few. This year sees the turn of electronica trio, VAULTS.
Guess who’s back again with another year abroad post? Yep, you guessed it. It’s been over two months since I moved to Spain now and quite honestly, it has felt more like two years. I went home last month for a couple of days and for a while, I was absolutely fine, seeing friends, going out for drinks and celebrating the Pilares. However, with bad news of my uncle came anxiety, dread and a hell of a lot of emotion. To put it simply: I have been extremely homesick.
After a long and hard wait, The xx have finally returned. Following Jamie xx’s success in 2015 with his debut album, In Colour, it comes as no surprise that the band are back and better than ever with their new single, ‘Hold On’.
Alright folks, it’s that time of year again. The countdown to Christmas has finally begun (hurrah!) and that can only mean one thing: it’s time for a bit of Michael Bublé.
Whenever we visit my grandfather, there’s the potential he may be having an ‘off day’. If and when this is the case, my father may say to me, ‘I hope I’m in the ground before I ever get like that’. But what is ‘that’ exactly? For the most part, he means being diagnosed with dementia, which my paternal grandmother also suffered from for a number of years. Being unable to remember your friends, your family and even yourself the further along this disease grabs you can be totally distressing, both to experience and to witness, so I can understand his mentality.
It’s award season, people! The Oscars, Grammys, BAFTAs, BRITS and everything else in between have been awarding the ‘very best’ within the film and music industries in the last month or so. While I think that me going into depth on something like the Grammy’s is just only going to get me a ton of unwanted aggro, there is one thing I can comment on: this year’s NME awards. Last night saw them take place, and along with it came the usual disappointment and disagreement. What a surprise.
