When Jack Garratt descended on Birmingham’s O2 Institute on his latest tour, the entire evening became a celebration, both of the music and the man behind it. Or should I say, the man behind the drum machine contraption set up on stage. Seeing a master of his craft perform live is a delight, and this was no exception: from the minute Garratt stepped on stage and assumed his position – drumsticks in hand, snapback in place – we knew we were witnessing the start of something special.

Album Review / Phase – Jack Garratt

The last year has been a whirlwind for Jack Garratt. The multi-instrumentalist from Buckinghamshire has been heralded as the BBC’s Introducing Artist of the Year, and since their Sound of 2016. He even won this year’s BRITs Critics’ Choice, following in the gargantuan footsteps of artists such as Ellie Goulding, Adele and last year’s winner, James Bay. With the monumental¬†buzz surrounding the eventual release of his debut album,¬†Phase, the main question is this: has he managed to get it right?
