Perhaps a profanity in a song title isn’t something we’d expect from indie-folk trio, The Staves, but it’s something they’ve certainly surprised us with. Ahead of a North American tour and headlining Bushstock this summer, the band have released a double-A side single consisting of ‘Train Tracks’ and ‘Tired As Fuck’. The latter is a bluesy rock track that sees the sisters significantly distancing themselves from their signature sound and style.
There are many things that have already characterised 2017 as another particularly awful year, but the return of Laura Marling is certainly not one of them. While the beginning of this year may have brought with it a new, strongly-opposed US President and several debates regarding feminism and women’s rights, Marling has delivered some much-needed sunshine in the form of new single, ‘Wild Fire’. The track precedes her sixth album Semper Femina, an LP that sees Marling writing about women and “[her] great empathy towards them, and by proxy, towards [herself].”
Rounding off his tenth year as a solo artist with a sold-out UK tour, Frank Turner shows no signs of slowing down. Playing to a packed out crowd at Birmingham’s O2 Academy, the excitement buzzing around the room was impossible to ignore (as were the masses of previous tour tees).
