In a year that saw the UK drenched all summer due to the sheer force of Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’ reigning the charts and the High School Music 2 Soundtrack outselling every other release, 2007 was a very mixed (yet still pretty fantastic) year for music. It’s hard to believe that some of our most loved albums were released 10 years ago so let’s take a wander down memory lane for a round up of some of 2007’s album highlights. I’m feeling nostalgic already.
Hello and welcome to another instalment of Spotify Discoveries. Summer has finally arrived in the UK, the sun is shining and my latest list of gems is certainly perfect for the hot July vibes. This time around I ended up using the ‘New Music Friday’ playlist too, so this is a bit more of an up-to-date list than usual. Enjoy!
I’m back with this feature! My last Spotify Discoveries post went down a treat back in January, and being as my Discover Weekly playlists have been pretty damn good this month (sorry, February), I thought I best go through some of my favourites. Please do remember that this isn’t a post exclusively recommending the best ‘new’ music, but simply just going through tracks and artists I may have previously missed or overlooked. If any of you (like me) have a Spotify account, you know one of the things they do a lot of these days is curate playlists. The one that I’ve been subscribed to for a while now is Discover Weekly, something they describe as “your weekly mixtape of fresh music”. It’s sometimes a bit hit and miss, showing me songs I listen to regularly, however there’s always a couple of hidden gems that are new/I’ve missed. Hence this new idea for a blog feature, and what’s a better time than the first Monday of the year?
2015 has been a cracking year for music so far, with some brilliant albums having been released in the last six months – it is mad to think it’s June already! We’ve had new material from established artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Blur and The Cribs, with debut albums from the likes of SOAK and Wolf Alice. Plus, we still have much more to come in the next half of the year. This post is just a highlight of some of the brilliant material we’ve heard so far from January to June…

Well… I must have a playlist for everything, whether it’s for walking to university, getting the perfect songs together to help me through an essay and even when I’m relaxing and trying to sleep.
