Taking place upon the glorious Kobetamendi Hill, Bilbao BBK is back for another year of stellar acts and killer views. Organised by Basque music promoters Last Tour back in 2006, it has previously been nominated for Best Foreign Festival in 2010 and 2011, and that is no surprise looking at this year’s line up.
Headlining the festival from 7-9th July are none other than Arcade Fire, Pixies and a frankly incredible co-headlining duo of Foals and Tame Impala. Boasting four headliners of this stature is no mean feat, and each are set to bring their own powerful punch of indie rock to the Basque region like no other.
Joining them for this fabulous weekend of music is electronic duo Underworld, the anthemic British band Editors, Canadian electro-pop duo Junior Boys and the up-and-coming band Blossoms, the latter definitely cementing their status as a band who are destined for great things. BBK, like any other Spanish festival, also boasts several large Spanish names, with the likes of Hidrogenesse, Belako, Triángulo de Amor Bizarro and more being present.
With the festival celebrating its eleventh year, they are treating us to the very best. Some of the UK’s most loved acts in the last year are set to perform, including Slaves, Grimes, M83, Hot Chip, José Gonzalez and New Order. Added to this star-studded line up, Father John Misty is set to bring his ironic lyricism, Courtney Barnett her gritty surrealism, Wolf Alice their cool indie dream pop and Years and Years their ’80s synth stylings, all to the slopes of Mount Cobetas. I, for one, cannot wait until July to hit the beautiful Spanish scenery and take in a wonderful 72 hours of music.
